NO. 17 SOFTBALL CLAIMS SEASON SWEEP OVER BETHEL

MARION, Ind. – The No. 17 Indiana Wesleyan softball team picked up a sweep of Bethel University on Friday. The Wildcats registered wins by scores of 4-1 and 9-1. The Wildcats hold a one game lead in the Crossroads League standings with a decisive series come up tomorrow against No. 8 Marian.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
 
 

 
  • IWU took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back. Morgan Yeater singled and swiped second base. After a walk to Sadie Harding, the dyad each stole a base. Brylee Bilger's single up the middle knocked in both Wildcats for a 2-0 lead.
  • IWU kept the game at 2-0 and added to the advantage in the fourth. Becca Wyatt singled and moved to third on an error by the left fielder. A Kamryn Buck sacrifice fly allowed Wyatt to score for a 3-0 edge.
  • Courtney Thomas singled up the middle to lead off the sixth. After stealing second, she moved to third on a sacrifice bunt. Buck's sacrifice fly pushed the advantage to 4-0.
  • For the game, Yeater had three hits. Bilger and Buck each had two RBI.
  • Alyssa Wagner went the distance, striking out seven. She gave up one unearned run on one hit and walked just three.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
 

 
  • IWU jumped on top of the Pilots in the second frame. Wyatt single, moved to third on Bucks's base hit and hustled to third on Maddie Martin's sacrifice bunt. A wild pitch allowed Wyatt to score. Buck swiped home before Zoe Fountain, who entered as a pinch runner, crossed the plate on a groundout.  
  • The visitors made it 3-1 with a run in the fourth stanza.
  • The Wildcats got back in the scoring column in the fifth inning. Yeater singled and moved to second on an error before hustling to third on a wild pitch. After a walk to Harding, Bilger crushed a three-run shot for a 6-1 lead.
  • IWU ended the game with three runs in the bottom of the sixth. With the bases loaded, M. Swango drew a walk, pushing in Leah May. Wyatt's single up the middle drove in Chloe Poe. Bilger scored on Carli Merritt's fielder's choice, ending the game.
  • For the game, Wyatt led the way with two hits. Bilger drove in three and scored twice for the victors.
  • In the circle, Alayna Thomas got the win after throwing five strong innings. She had three strikeouts. Makenna Waddell worked the scoreless sixth.
