NO. 16 SOFTBALL TALLIES FOURTH-STRAIGHT SPLIT AGAINST GOSHEN

MARION, Ind. – The No. 16 Indiana Wesleyan softball team split a doubleheader against Goshen College on IWU Alumni & Family Night. The Wildcats lost the opener 5-2 before bouncing back to snag a 4-0 victory in the nightcap.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
 
 


 
  • IWU trailed 1-0 in the bottom of the first, but Courtney Thomas ripped a double to center field, knocking in Morgan Yeater, who had previously reached on an infield single before swiping second. 
  • Down 2-1 in the fourth, the Wildcats knotted the game once again. With two down, Kamryn Buck crushed an offering for a solo shot, making it 2-2.
  • The Maple Leafs regained the advantage in the fifth with a pair of runs. The visitors tacked on a final run in the sixth for the 5-2 victory.
  • The Wildcats had a runner on base in the final three stanzas, but the home team was unable to push across a run.
  • IWU rattled off eight hits in the game – three from Buck and three from Thomas. Buck launched a homer while Thomas recorded a double.
  • In the circle, Alyssa Wagner went the distance. She gave up five runs, four of which were earned, on nine hits. Wagner had five strikeouts in the loss.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
 

 
  • IWU jumped on top with two runs in the second stanza. Arie Hackett entered as a pinch runner and moved to second on a walk to Buck. A wild pitch pushed them up 60 feet into scoring position. Two batters later, Zoe Fountain's grounder allowed Hackett to score. Chloe Tragesser's infield hit plated Buck for a 2-0 edge. 
  • IWU added to the lead in the third inning. Brylee Bilger doubled to right field and Maddie Seitz came in as a pinch runner. She scampered to third on a wild pitch. Moments later, Seitz raced home on an errant pitch for the three-run margin.
  • That was more than enough for Alayna Thomas, who had a standout performance in the circle.  
  • The Wildcats added to the advantage in the sixth. With the bases full, Morgan Yeater drew a walk, allowing Sadie Harding to trot home.   
  • For the game, Bilger, Thomas and Tragesser all had hits.   
  • In the circle, Thomas went the distance. She had a pair of strikeouts in the win while only giving up three hits and a walk in the shutout victory.
