NO. 14 SOFTBALL TAKES TWO ON DAY TWO OF SPACE COAST SPRING GAMES

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The No. 14 Indiana Wesleyan softball team picked up a pair of victories Tuesday in a neutral-site affair in Melborne, Fla. The Wildcats bested Michigan-Dearborn 11-3 in the first game before notching a 5-1 win over Lourdes in the second contest of the day.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
 

 
  • In the top of the first, Abby Harvey singled in Morgan Yeater for a 1-0 advantage.
  • Trailing 2-1 in the top of the third, Sadie Harding was hit by a pitch. She moved to third after a single and fly ball before scoring on an error. Harvey's sacrifice fly pushed across Brylee Bilger for a 3-2 advantage.
  • IWU broke open the game with five runs in the fifth. Harding started things when she was hit by a pitch. After swiping second and third, she scored on Kamryn Buck's base hit. With the bases loaded, Maddie
    Martin reached on an error, allowing Buck and Harvey to score. A wild pitch pushed Becca Wyatt across home plate before Courtney Thomas' grounder drove in Zoe Fountain for an 8-2 lead. 
  • Up 8-3 in the seventh, Fountain reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Harvey to score. Sara Ruble's sacrifice had Wyatt and Fountain crossing home plate for the 11-3 win.
  • Harvey led the way with three hits, two RBI and two runs scored. Wyatt, Fountain and Harding all crossed home twice in the victory.
  • Alayna Thomas worked 4.1 innings and had a strikeout to pick up the win. Emma Etter-Cock worked 2.2 frames and notched two strikeouts.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
 

 
  • In the bottom of the first, Bilger's sacrifice fly drove in Yeater for a 1-0 lead. 
  • The Wildcats broke it open in the second frame. Chloe Poe led off the inning with a double and trotted home on Makenna Waddell's two-base hit. Wyatt followed it up with a double to right, scoring Waddell. Two batters later, Chloe Tragesser reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Wyatt to cross home for a 4-0 advantage. 
  • A lead-off home run by S. Harding in the fifth pushed the margin to 5-0. Lourdes posted a run in the sixth but IWU would not let the visitors get any closer. 
  • For the game, Yeater led the way with a two-hit performance.
  • In the circle, Alyssa Wagner went the distance, striking out three in the victory. She allowed just one run on four hits.

  • The Wildcats return to action tomorrow for a pair of games. The team takes on Lawrence Tech at 10 a.m., before squaring off against Concordia (Mich.) at 12:15 p.m.
