NO. 16 SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH LAWRENCE TECH AND CONCORDIA AT SPACE COAST SPRING GAMES

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The No. 16 Indiana Wesleyan University softball team split a pair of games on Thursday, defeating Lawrence Tech 4-2 before dropping the second game of the day by an 8-3 score to No. 24 Concordia (Mich.).

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
 

 
  • Down 2-0 in the fifth inning, IWU got things going. Becca Wyatt tripled to lead things off. After Zoe Fountain stole second to put two in scoring position, Sadie Harding ripped a double to left field, driving in two. Brylee Bilger's RBI single plated Harding for a 3-2 lead.
  • The score remained the same until the top of the seventh. Maddie Martin walked. Morgan Yeater came in to run and swiftly stole second base. Harding's hit to left field allowed Yeater to score for an insurance run.
  • Alyssa Wagner came in to close out the game for Emma Etter-Cox. She promptly struck out two batters before forcing a fly ball out for the save.
  • For the game, Harding led the way with two hits and had three RBI. Bilger had the team's other RBI in the win.
  • Etter-Cox worked six innings for the victory. She struck out eight while Wagner had a pair of strikeouts in the win.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
 

 
  • Down 2-0 in the top of the third, IWU Chloe Tragesser singled to center field with one away and hustled to second on a sacrifice bunt. After moving to third on a wild pitch, Harding knocked her in with a single to left field.
  • Concordia plated two runs in the bottom of the frame for a 4-1 advantage.
  • The Wildcats pushed across a run in the fifth. With Wyatt on second base, an infield hit by Yeater allowed Wyatt to race home.
  • Down 7-2 in the sixth, Abby Harvey crushed a one-out solo home run over the left field wall. However, that was as close as the team could get.
  • For the game, Yeater led the way with two hits. Harding, Harvey, Wyatt and Tragesser all had hits in the victory.
  • Wagner had six strikeouts in five innings of work in the loss. Alayna Thomas worked the sixth inning for the Wildcats.

  • The Wildcats return to action tomorrow when they face Trinity Christian College at 2:30 p.m., and New College of Florida at 4:45 p.m.
