BASEBALL SPLITS WITH GOSHEN

MARION, Ind. – The Indiana Wesleyan baseball team split a doubleheader against Goshen. The Wildcats won the opener 25-2 before falling 8-2 in the nightcap.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
 

 
  • IWU scored in four frames, including a 15-run fifth-frame while pounding out 20 hits in the win. 
  • Quinn Willard led the team with a six-RBI performance while Andrew Sinish and Nick Wiley had four RBI apiece. MJ Stavola knocked in three runs while Caleb Engelsman, Darien Pugh and Luke Roman drove in two runs each.
  •  Pugh scored four times while Engelsman, Wiley and Yoder crossed home three times each.  Roman, Sinish, Stavola and Willard each scored twice. 
  • Engelsman and Willard had home runs. Engelsman, Roman, Trevor Vojtkofsky and Wiley had doubles. 
  • IWU broke open the game in the first inning with four runs, including a two-RBI double by Sinish. The Wildcats drove in three runs in the second and third innings. Up 10-2 in the fifth, IWU registered a 15-run inning, highlighted by Willard's grand slam. 
  • Drue Young was outstanding, tossing six innings of four-hit ball. He picked up the win and had six strikeouts. Dylan Bryant struck out the side in the seventh on 13 pitches.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
 

 
  • Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth, IWU bounced back. Nick Wiley doubled to lead off the inning and scored on a single by Sinish. 
  • A walk to Engelsman and Zach Green loaded the bags for pinch hitter M. Snowden, who drove in Sinish on a groundout for a 2-1 advantage. 
  • Tied at 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh, Wiley earned a one-out walk. He hustled to second on a wild pitch. After a walk to Stavola, each runner moved up 90 feet on a sacrifice bunt. However, the Wildcats were unable to push across a run. The visitors plated six runs in the eighth for the 8-2 win.
  • For the game, Engelsman, Sinish, Wiley and Willard had hits. Wiley's hit went for a double. 
  • Brock Buckley tossed six innings and had six strikeouts. Caleb Olsen worked 2.2 frames and had two strikeouts while Jacob Boint threw an inning and had a strikeout.
