WOMEN'S TENNIS FINDS SUCCESS AT ITA NATIONALS CUP

Rome, Ga. - No. 4 seed Sofia Munoz won 6-3, 6-4 over Kaiser University's Eloise de Mooij in quarterfinal action at the ITA Nationals in Rome, GA. Munoz began the match with a break of serve against the 6'-3" Dutchwoman. Munoz continued to create opportunities by attacking de Mooij and making her move from corner to corner. De Mooij couldn't sustain the longer rallies created by Munoz. Munoz played aggressively to keep her opponent on her heels with a variety of attacking angles and crisp passing shots. At 5-3 in the first set, Munoz was able to break de Mooij a second time to win the set. Munoz came out even more focused to start the second set and won the first game easily. There was a trade of early breaks in the second set as de Mooij began to take control of the rallies with a string of flat forehands and backhands down the line that Munoz couldn't get to. The key games in the match came after Munoz broke and held late in the set to go up 5-3 and serving. Munoz had two match points at 5-3 but de Mooij came up with incredible winners on back-to-back points. The final game of the match was Munoz's fourth break of the match. Munoz plays the 2nd seed Saturday at noon. The match will be live streamed for free.

In the afternoon Munoz and France Antezana defeated the pair from Southeastern University (FL) in straight sets 6-1, 7-5. In the first set Antezana was dominant on her returns and totally controlled the net hitting several winners and hitting the opponents on several poaches. In the second set, IWU struggled to keep up the performance and got down 4-0 before winning seven of the next eight games. During the incredible run, Munoz and Antezana took control of the net and took the match away from Southeastern. They will play their final match tomorrow afternoon at 5PM.

Coach Gleghorn said this about Munoz, "Sofia played the best match of her career. This is just the tip of the iceberg for how well she can play. She played an almost flawless tactical match. I am really proud of her effort and the way she rebounded from yesterday's tough doubles match."

"In the doubles today, France played really well and led us to victory," also said by Coach Gleghorn. "She has gutted out the last two weeks with a sprained ankle and she is really showing her senior leadership. I want to give a shoutout to our incredible trainer Lindsey Krippel Without Lindsey, Sofia and France would not be at Nationals. She is invaluable to our team!"
