NO. 5 VOLLEYBALL STAYS UNBEATEN WITH SWEEP OF HUNTINGTON

MARION, IND. - No. 5 Indiana Wesleyan volleyball remained unbeaten with a 3-0 sweep of Huntington on Wednesday. The Wildcats dominated the first two sets with eleven and nine point victories, and outlasted the Foresters in the third set 25-20 to move to 10-0 and 2-0 in the Crossroads League.

  • The Wildcats jump out to a hot start in the first set with the first two plays being a service ace and a kill both from Martina Demarchi. The first set stayed close as IWU had a 15-10 lead in a close battle but the Wildcat's ended up pulling away, winning 25-14.
  • IWU took an early lead in the second set, going up 12-6. The Wildcats scored 3 straight points multiple times the rest of the way to take a 2-0 advantage with a 25-16 victory. 
  • The third set was a battle as neither team held a lead of more than 5 points, but the Wildcats finished off the sweep with a 25-20 victory and continued their unbeaten season. 
  • Marta Zambetti and Eva Joldersma each tallied 13 kills to lead the way for IWU.
  • Rebekah Sergent, Marissa Mullins and Martina Demarchi each had 2 aces.
  • Cassie Gregory and Mullins both had 3 blocks.
  • Abbigail Porter had a team high 40 assists.
  • Demarchi and Cadee Notter led IWU with 9 digs each.

  • "There is a lot of heart and competitiveness showing up each night as the team competes,"  said Head Coach Candace Moats. "I love the growth of each individual player!  We have areas to get better and will go back to work tomorrow!  Thanks to the fans who supported us tonight!"
