MOUNT VERNON, OH. -  Indiana Wesleyan baseball picked up two wins over conference foe Mount Vernon Nazarene on Wednesday. Pitcher Drue Young led the Wildcats to victory in game one, pitching a complete game while allowing only 4 hits. Caleb Engelsman led the team from the plate in game two, going 3 for 3 with 3 RBIs.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS

 

 

• The Wildcats picked up 2 runs in the 3rd inning. First Ty Mathews came across on a single from Nick Wiley and then Evan Salmon scored on a Jeff Morton single.
• Jake Thompson added another run for IWU in the 4th on a Luke Roman double. Evan Salmon hit his 8th homer of the season with a 3 run shot to give IWU a 6-0 lead.
• Drue Young went the entire way on the mound, striking out 4, walking 2, and allowing only 4 hits across 9 innings.

 

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS

 

 

• Jeff Morton hit a solo home run in the 2nd and Caleb Engelsman singled, scoring Jake Thompson and Quinn Willard. 
• Mount Vernon got their first run of the day in 2nd, making the sore 3-1.
• Willard scored on another single from Engelsman in the 4th and Lucas Goodin scored Englesman on a single.
• The Cougars hit a home run in the 5th and 6th innings to stay in the game at 5-3, but the Wildcats didn't allow another run to escape with the win.
• Brock Buckley got the start on the mound, going 5.2 innings with 2 strikeouts, 7 hits, and 3 runs. Hunter Hoffman relieved Buckley in the 6th inning, fanning 1 batter and allowing 1 hit in 1.1 innings of action.
