BASEBALL SWEPT BY TROJANS IN THRILLING SERIES

MARION, IND. -  Indiana Wesleyan baseball continued their series with Taylor on Saturday, falling in both games of the doubleheader. With the series sweep the Trojans take a three game lead over the Wildcats and Huntington in the Crossroads League standings.

 GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
 

 
  • The teams traded runs in the 2nd inning. IWU got on the board with Jeff Morton's 3rd home run of the series.
  • The Trojans tried to gain separation in the 5th with 3 runs. However, the Wildcats responded in the 6th with a Lucas Goodin 2 run homer and a 2 RBI single from Bryce Ginder to take a 5-4 lead. 
  • Goodin extended the Wildcat lead to three with another 2 run shot to right field. 
  • Taylor retook the lead with 4 runs in the 8th. IWU responded with 3 of their own in the bottom of the inning.
  • The Trojans tied the game in the top of the 9th to send the game to extra innings and scored on a wild pitch in the 10th to take a 12-11 lead. The Wildcats were unable to answer with a run of their own, falling in a back and forth game one.
  • Luke Roman had a strong performance at the plate with a season high 3 hits and 3 runs.
  • Drue Young got the start on the mound and recorded 8 strikeouts, 5 hits, and 4 runs in 7 innings.

 GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
 

 
  • Taylor scored 3 runs in the 3rd to take an early lead. IWU responded with 3 of their own in the bottom of the 3rd.
  • Both teams added a run in the 4th. 
  • The Trojans took the lead for good with 3 runs in the 5th.
  • Quinn Willard scored on a Jake Thompson single in the 5th, closing the deficit to 2 runs at 7-5.
  • Taylor added 2 insurance runs in the 7th, extending their lead to 9-5.
  • Brock Buckley and Gabe Stout combined for 6 strikeouts, 7 hits, and 9 runs on the mound.
