BASEBALL STAYS ATOP THE CROSSROADS LEAGUE WITH TWO WINS OVER SAINT FRANCIS

MOUNT VERNON, OH. -  Indiana Wesleyan baseball kept their spot atop the Crossroads League standings, picking up two wins over the University of Saint Francis on Monday. The Wildcats scored 35 runs across the doubleheader, including a single game season high 24 in game two.

  • The Cougars got on the scoreboard first, adding a run in the 1st and 2 runs in the 2nd.
  • A single from Bryce Ginder brought Jake Thompson and Jeff Morton home in the 2nd inning.
  • Nick Wiley tied the game with a solo home run in the 3rd.
  • USF retook the lead in the 4th, scoring 1 run.
  • Thompson evened the score on a passed ball in the bottom of the 4th.
  • Evan Salmon gave IWU their first lead with a solo home run in the 7th.
  • The Wildcats exploded in the 8th innings with 6 runs, highlighted by a grand slam from Colby Jenkins.
  • Saint Francis scored 2 runs in the 9th but were unable to overcome the deficit.
  • Hunter Hoffman earned the win on the mound with 4 strikeouts, 2 hits, and 3 runs across 3 innings.

  • The Wildcats came out hot in game two, scoring 9 runs in the 1st inning. Lucas Goodin hit a lead off home run to get the scoring started.
  • IWU added 6 more runs in the 2nd inning, building a 15-0 lead early in game two.
  • Goodin hit his 2nd homer of the game in the 3rd, extending the lead to 17-0.
  • The Wildcats added another run in the 4th before the Cougars got their first run of the game in the 5th.
  • IWU added a run in the 5th and 3 in the 6th to build their lead up to 24-1.
  • Brock Buckley got the win, going 5 innings and tallying 3 strikeouts, 2 hits, and 1 run.
