IWU COMEBACK BID FALLS SHORT IN BOTH GAMES AGAINST LINDSEY WILSON

COLUMBIA, Ky. - Indiana Wesleyan baseball fell short in both games against Lindsey Wilson College on Saturday despite comeback efforts in both. The Wildcats fell behind 8-3 in game one and 10-0 in game two. IWU battled back to take a 10-8 lead in the first game but dropped the game 12-11 in 10 innings. In game two, IWU pulled within 4 runs at 11-7 but came up short, losing 13-8.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
 

 
  • After two scoreless innings, Lindsey Wilson got the scoring started with 3 runs in the bottom of the 3rd. After IWU evened the score in the top of the 4th, the Blue Raiders exploded for 5 runs to take a 8-3 lead into the 5th inning.
  • The Wildcats got their comeback bid started in the 7th inning with RBIs from Lucas Goodin, Colby Jenkins, and MJ Stavola
  • IWU pulled even in the 8th inning after a Luke Roman and Jeff Morton scored on a Goodin sac fly. Colby Jenkins gave the Wildcats the lead, scoring Quinn Willard and Roman on a single to right field.
  • In the 10th inning, Willard scored on an error by Lindsey Wilson after stealing 3rd to take an 11-10 lead. However a two-run homer by Lindsey WIlson ended the Wildcat's hope of completing the comeback.
  • Jenkins and Stavola led the team with 3 hits each.
  • Grayson Knight, Drue Young, and Evan Fry saw action on the mound, combining for 10 strikeouts, 9 hits, and 12 runs.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS


 

  • The Wildcats found themselves in an early hole after Lindsey WIlson scored 10 runs in the bottom of the 2nd.
  • Nick Wiley scored on an error in the 3rd and Jake Thompson scored on a Bryce Ginder single in the 4th to get IWU on the board.
  • The Blue Raiders added a run in the bottom of the 4th, leading 11-2 heading into the 5th inning.
  • MJ Stavola sent a ball over the fence in the 6th inning, also scoring Jake Thompson. A triple from Caleb Engelsman scored Dean Bechman, Wiley, and Ginder to bring the score to 11-7.
  • Lindsey Wilson added two runs in the 7th inning, extending their lead to 13-7. Lucas Goodin scored on a Ginder RBI in the 9th, but the Wildcats were unable to even the score, falling 13-8.
  • Nick Wiley led the team with 2 hits.
  • 7 Wildcats saw time on the mound, combining for  9 strikeouts, 13 runs, and 10 hits.
