BUCKLEY EARNS FIRST CAREER WIN AS IWU DEFEATS CUMBERLAND

LEBANON, TN. - The Indiana Wesleyan University baseball team defeated Cumberland University 12-4 on Saturday, moving to 3-2-1 on the season. The Wildcat batters stayed hot in the series against Cumberland scoring 10 or more runs in each of the three games. Freshman pitcher Brock Buckley earned his first career win in game three, allowing only 1 run and 2 hits in 4 innings of action.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
 

 
  • IWU got on the board first when Caleb Engelsman scored off of a Quinn Willard single in the 2nd inning. Cumberland walked two batters with bases loaded, giving the Wildcats a 3-0 lead going into the bottom of the 2nd inning.
  • After Cumberland tied the game a 3-3, Colby Jenkins homered to left field also scoring Lucas Goodin to give IWU a 5-3 lead.
  • A sac fly in the 4th pulled Cumberland within 1 run, but IWU would extend their lead with 2 runs each in the 5th, 6th, and 9th innings to pull away.
  • It was a balanced day at the plate for IWU with MJ Stavola, Quinn Willard, Lucas Goodin, and Caleb Engelsman each recording two hits.
  • Stavola also stole 3 bases in the game.
  • Will Eldridge, Brock Buckley, and Grayson Knight all had strong showings on the mound, combining to only allow 4 hits, 4 runs, and walk 3 batters in the game.

  • "Good series win on the road in a tough environment. Eldridge, Buckley, and Knight threw well to hold Cumberland to four hits," said Rich Benjamin, Head Baseball Coach. "We defended at a high level all weekend and executed on offense."
