MARION, Ind. - No. 1-seed
Sofia Munoz and
France Antezana beat the No. 7-seed Bethel University team of Palani and Kokoula, 6-2/6-2, to win the ITA Doubles Regional Championship. The duo won five matches across the four-day tournament. Munoz and Antezana were never broken in the two sets of the championship match. They dominated from the outset with back-to-back breaks of serve in the first set. The pair controlled the net and put the Bethel pair on the defensive the whole match. With the win, the Wildcats have qualified for the ITA Cup on October 12-15 in Rome, Ga.
"I am so proud of the way France and Sofia persevered this week," said
James Gleghorn, Head Tennis Coach. "There were rain delays, indoor and outdoor matches, and even matches starting after 10:30PM. They played magnificent tennis the last two days to win it all!"
IWU begin the conference tournament this Tuesday at home against Mt. Vernon Nazarene University.
