SALMON BREAKS IWU HOME RUN RECORD, WILDCATS SWEEP GOSHEN

MARION, Ind. - Evan Salmon hit a home run in each game and now holds the record for the most home runs hit by a Wildcat in a single season. He passes Brandon Shaffer who hit 18 in 2016. The Wildcats dominated game one, winning 14-2. After trailing early in game two, Salmon's record-breaking home run tied things up and propelled the Wildcats to a 13-6 victory.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS


 
  • Evan Salmon kicked things off in the first with his record-tying 18th home run of the season. He finished the first game with three hits and five RBIs. 
  • The Wildcats jumped ahead early and never looked back, they scored the first eight runs of the game and scored in every inning except the second. 
  • Hunter Hoffman had another dazzling performance on the mound, going five innings and striking out 11.
  • Denver Blinn had a home run, he also scored three runs and had three RBIs.
  • Jeff Morton added a home run while MJ Stavola contributed a triple.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS



 

  • The Wildcats hit five home runs in game two and none were bigger than Evan Salmon's record-breaking blast in the fourth. Salmon sits tied for third in the NAIA for home runs this season. He breaks Brandon Shaffer's record from 2016, Shaffer also led the Wildcats to their first ever NAIA National Tournament Birth in 2016.  
  • Jeff Morton had two home runs which gives him his first career multi-home run game, he finished with five RBIs and totaled three homers on the day.
  • MJ Stavola and Denver Blinn were the other two Wildcats with homers in the game. Blinn added to his good day with three more hits, three RBIs, and three runs scored. 
  • Brennan Morehead earned the win by going four innings and striking out four. Jake Engelkes added two scoreless innings and three strikeouts. 
  • Colby Jenkins, Bryce Ginder, and Luke Roman all contributed two hits, IWU had five hitters with multiple hits in the contest.

  • The series wraps up tomorrow as the Wildcats look to earn the series sweep. Game one is set for 1 p.m.
