NO. 15 BASEBALL EXPLODES FOR 45 RUNS IN TWO GAMES AGAINST SPRING ARBOR

MARION, Ind. - IWU wrapped a four-game series with two wins against Spring Arbor on Saturday. It was all Wildcats in game one, they scored in every inning except the first and scored 11 runs in the 6th inning leading to a 26-1 victory. Game two was a shootout, the teams combined for 37 runs on 39 hits. An eight-run 6th inning proved to be enough as IWU took the game 19-18.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS


 
  • IWU took the cover off the ball, scoring 26 runs on 22 hits. That's the most runs the Wildcats have scored in a game since March 25, 2017, when they defeated Grace College 27-5.
  • MJ Stavola and Evan Salmon led the way with five hits each, Salmon had a home run and two doubles, while Stavola scored a team-high five runs and stole two bases. 
  • Zach Rabe had two home runs, his second multi-home run game this season. He also added a triple, a double, and eight RBIs in the game. 
  • Blake Storr contributed a home run, his first on the season. 
  • Don't let the offensive output overshadow the pitching. Hunter Hoffman went all seven innings, allowing just one run and striking out six.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS


 

  • The second game was a barn burner, it featured six home runs, four lead changes, and a total of 11 pitchers between the two teams. 
  • MJ Stavola added four more hits, bringing his total to nine on the day. A 2nd inning grand-slam gave Stavola his first home run on the season.
  • Denver Blinn and Evan Salmon both had a two-run home run in the 6th inning. Salmon now has eight home runs through 16 games. 
  • Lucas Goodin, Bryce Ginder, Zach Rabe, and Jeff Morton all had two hits in the game. That was Goodin's 8th multi-hit game so far this season. 
  • Blake Storr continued his good day at the plate. He added three more hits, matching his total from game one.
