IWU BASEBALL SPLITS WITH MVNU, HOFFMAN AND ENGELKES COMBINE FOR 13 STRIKEOUTS

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Indiana Wesleyan baseball took one of two games against the Cougars in a doubleheader on Monday. Backed by a strong pitching performance, the Wildcats took game one 8-3. Game two was a back and forth affair featuring four lead changes, however the Wildcats came up short falling 11-8.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS


 
  • Hunter Hoffman got the win, striking out eight and allowing just one earned run. Jake Engelkes earned the save collecting five strikeouts and keeping the Cougars scoreless through the final two and one-third innings. 
  • Zach Rabe did it all, contributing a home run, triple, two runs scored, and three RBIs. 
  • Bryce Ginder and Evan Salmon both added two hits, Ginder was tied for the team lead in RBIs with three. 
  • Denver Blinn and Blake Storr collected doubles in the game, Blinn had two of them.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS


 

  • The Wildcats threw four pitchers in game two, Nick Evans went one and a third without giving up a run. 
  • Three different Wildcats had three-hit games, Denver Blinn, Bryce Ginder, and Jeff Morton. All three had doubles in the game, Morton had two. 
  • MJ Stavola had two hits, bringing his total to 23 this season which is fifth on the team.
  • Evan Salmon added a home run, bringing his team-high total to nine on the year.

CONTINUING THE SERIES


 
  • Pending weather, the Wildcats have a matchup with the University of Northwestern Ohio slated for Wednesday. This weekend the Wildcats head to Winona Lake to take on the Lancers of Grace College. First pitch against Grace is scheduled for Friday at 1 p.m.
