MARION, Ind. - After a weird 2020 season, Indiana Wesleyan football is back, with the Wildcat's welcoming in the Beacons of Valparaiso University Saturday at 6 p.m. to kick off their 2021 slate.
INSIDE SCOOP ON IWU
IWU enters the contest looking to win their third straight home opener. This marks just the second time in program history the Wildcats open up at home, with last season starting at Olivet Nazarene and 2019 at Butler University, also a member of the Pioneer Football League.
The Wildcats last took the field at home on March 26 when they defeated Taylor University, 23-0.
Head Coach
Jordan Langs enters his fourth season, with a record of 15-9.
WHO IS VALPO
Valpo was picked to finish sixth of 11 in the Pioneer Football League preseason poll.
Valpo enters the contest with five players on the Preseason All-Pioneer Football League team. Running back Robert Washington is the lone offensive recipient, while defensive players Jaxon Peifer and Keyon Turner represent the defense. Rounding out the squad is kicker Brian Bartholomew and punter Ben Niesner for the specialist.
The newly named Beacons played six games last spring, collecting wins over Butler, Drake, and San Diego, good for the program's best winning percentage since 2003.
Head Coach Landon Fox calls the shots for VU, and is entering his third season with an overall record of 5-13 under the helm.
