Game Recap: Football |

FOOTBALL TOPS NO. 6 OLIVET NAZARENE BY 24 POINTS

MARION, Ind. - Newly acquainted to the NAIA Top-25 polls, No. 25 Indiana Wesleyan football made a program statement win Saturday, taking down No. 6 Olivet Nazarene, 52-28 handing the Tigers their largest loss since 2016. It's the Wildcat's third Top-25 win in program history, but their first NAIA Top-10 win.

INSIDE THE GAME
  • IWU smothered the Tigers running game, holding them to just 66 net yards, their fewest in a game since 2017.
  • Xander Stokes tossed for 218 yards and Devodney Alford picked up 143 in the run game, while as a squad IWU collected 480 yards from the scrimmage.
  • IWU in all four meetings against ONU has posted at least 325 total yards, including 506 in their first meeting in 2018.
  • Alford's 143 rushing yards are the most in a game for the senior since Lawrence Tech in 2018, when he racked up 168. His touchdown pass tonight and his three rushing touchdowns are all career firsts.
  • Josh Davidson collected his 10th career game with at least 10 tackles, having collected a team-best 11 tonight.
  • Tonight marked the fourth time in Braydon Smith's career he went for at least 100 yards, collecting 109 tonight.

LANGS PERSPECTIVE
  • In reference to the team and how they played tonight….We did not handle ourselves coming out of halftime a week ago, and two weeks later we had a chance to do it again and they did. Our kids never had a dip tonight and they showed what our potential is as a football team, and now the test is doing it week in and week out.
  • In reference to how the team can get better…We have to get better at alot of small things. We had to play alot of snaps at the end of the half but our defense did well. It's about controlling who we are, controlling our demeanor, controlling our assignment and I believe our guys will get better in those areas.
  • In reference to what's ahead....Concordia is a Top-5 program, they are a great team and it's going to be tough to travel up to Ann Arbor. It just keeps coming but I know our guys will be excited for it.

NEXT TIME OUT
  • The road doesn't get any easier as IWU takes a week off before heading on the road to No. 5 Concordia (Mich.).
  • The Cardinals haven't lost a game at home since 2016 when they hosted #4 Saint Francis out of Fort Wayne, Indiana.
