Game Recap: Football |

FOOTBALL NEARLY TOPPLES NO. 5 CONCORDIA ON THE ROAD

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Indiana Wesleyan football took their No. 11 ranking on the road Saturday, facing No. 5 Concordia in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The Cardinals jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead in the first quarter, with the Wildcats finding the endzone in the second quarter twice squaring things up at 14 apiece headed into halftime.

Gavin Brooks gave the Cardinals back the lead at the end of the third, finding Keviontae Brown on a 1-yard touchdown pass. Brooks would finish the day with three touchdown passes.

Xander Stokes would match Brooks tick-for-tac, tying things back up with five minutes left in the game on a 6-yard pass to Jacquez Carter. Stokes finished the day with 261 yards in the air, with Brooks totaling just 188.

With 4:49 left in the ball game, CU would travel 69 yards in 10 plays, setting up a Brooks to Seeger DeGayne game-winning touchdown pass, leaving IWU just 1:15 left on the clock.

IWU moved to 3-1, 0-1 on the season, while CU moved to 3-0, 1-0.

INSIDE THE BOX
  • IWU totaled a season high 263 receiving yards led by Brayden Smith, who tallied 101 while finding the endzone twice.
  • It was as pretty on the ground for the Wildcats who collected 86 yards, their lowest in a game dating back to March 6th when they had just 56 against Siena Heights (Mich.).
  • Jamis Carson led all IWU tacklers with 10, a new career-high for the senior from Murfreesboro, Tenn. Indiana Wesleyan has seen three different Wildcats lead them in tackles through four games.
  • Indiana Wesleyan struggled to haul in an interception, snapping their four-game streak with at least one.
  • Justin Johnson collected the team's longest kickoff return of the season in the third quarter going 42-yards.

LANGS PERSPECTIVE
  • Unfortunately, our preparation and hard work did not pay off today. I really like our football team and am excited to see it respond and choose to grow.

NEXT TIME OUT
  • IWU hosts No. 7 Marian on Saturday at 1 p.m.
