SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH TAYLOR, TAKES SERIES 3-1

MARION, Ind. – No. 10 Indiana Wesleyan split a doubleheader with Taylor Friday afternoon, falling 8-1 before picking up the game two win by a count of 2-1. IWU took the four game series in League play, winning three of the four matchups.

INSIDE THE BOX – Game 1
  • Taylor jumped on top with two runs in the fourth, but the Wildcats scored a run in the bottom of the frame. However, the Trojans scored five in the sixth and one in the seventh for the victory.
  • Miranda Wehrle launched a solo homer over the center field fence to lead off the fourth inning.
  • For the game, Wehrle had two of the team's four hits. Jennah Yost and Kaycee Wisley each accounted for a base knock.
  • In the circle, Mckenzey Ridge worked 4.2 innings and took the loss. Danielle Munn threw the final 2.1 frames. Munn picked up a strikeout.  


INSIDE THE BOX – Game 2
  • IWU found itself trailing 1-0 after the second inning, but the Wildcats plated two runs in the third and a strong defensive performance guided the team to a 2-1 win.
  • The squad tallied four hits – one by four different Wildats. Yost, Chloe Tragresser, Wehrle and Maddy Margraf all had hits.
  • Becca Wyatt and Yost each scored a run while Tragresser and Wehrle each drove in a run.
  • Tragresser accounted for the team's lone extra base hit (double) in the contest. Julianne Bell notched a sacrifice hit.
  • Alyssa Wagner went the distance in the circle, registering six strikeouts. She gave up just one run on four hits, but the run was unearned. The freshman has given up just 12 earned runs in 77.1 innings of work. She stands just two strikeouts away from 100.


NEXT TIME OUT
  • The Wildcats take the field again Tuesday when they host Goshen in a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m.
