HUNTINGTON, Ind. – The No. 7 Indiana Wesleyan softball team recorded a sweep of Huntington Saturday afternoon, winning 5-0 in the opener before posting a 12-0 victory in the nightcap.

INSIDE THE BOX – Game 1

• In a tightly contested game, IWU broke through with three runs in the third and added a pair more in the fifth for the 5-0 victory thanks in part to dominant pitching from Alyssa Wagner.
• Wagner threw a complete game shutout, striking out 12 batters. She walked just four and gave up only two hits in the victory.
• Miranda Wehrle led everyone with a three-for-three effort. She drove in two runs. Hannah Miller had a hit and drove in two as well. Jennah Yost scored twice.
• With one down in the third, Julianne Bell and Yost each bunted safely for base hits, putting runners on first and second. Chloe Tragresser's base hit loaded the bags. Wehrle's infield hit scored Bell for what turned out to be the game-winning run. Miller singled in Yost and Tragresser for the 3-0 advantage.
• Bell was hit by a pitch to lead off the fifth. Yost reached on an error and Bell came around to score. With one down, Wehrle singled in Yost for the final run of the game.

SMALL BALL

• IWU is averaging an extra-base hit more than one out of every four base hits. However, the team did not have an extra-base hit in the opener against Huntington.

DOMINATING THE CIRCLE

• Alyssa Wagner continued her dominance in the circle, striking out 12 batters. She improved to 18-2 on the year. Wagner now has 150 strikeouts compared to 39 walks.

INSIDE THE BOX – Game 2

• IWU jumped on top in game two, scoring a run in the first, two in the second, four in the fifth and closed the game with a five-run sixth for the 12-0 victory.
• As powerful as the bats were, Mckenzey Ridge was just as outstanding in the circle. She struck out six, walked one and gave up just one hit in the shutout victory.
• Makenna Pace led everyone with three hits and chipped in two RBI. Tragresser tallied two hits and drove in three runs. Bell ahd two hits and two RBI while Kamryn Buck, Wehrle and Becca Wyatt had two hits apiece. Tragresser, Wyatt and Yost each scored twice.
• In the first, Miller singled up the middle, plating Tragresser. The Wildcats increased the lead in the second when Pace ripped a solo lead-off homer over the left field wall. Tragresser singled in Yost, who had reached on a walk.
• Rebecca Schrad and Buck recorded back-to-back hits in the fifth. Pace bunted for a hit that scored Schrad. Buck scored for a 5-0 lead. Bell singled home Pace and Wyatt, increasing the margin to 7-0.
• IWU was impressive in the sixth, scoring all five runs with two outs. Pace, Wyatt and Bell singled to load the bases. Yost walked in Pace before Tragresser's double scored Wyatt and Bell. Laney Shaw's walk plated Yost and Tragresser came home as Schrad reached on an error.

SPREADING AROUND THE HITS

• IWU had eight student-athletes that recorded at least one hit. In all, the Wildcats had 15 hits. One player had three hits, five had two hits and two players had one hit in the win.

NEXT TIME OUT

• The Wildcats take the field again Tuesday, Apr. 27 when they play at Grace in a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
