IWU POWERS PAST GRACE IN DOUBLEHEADER SWEEP

WINONA LAKE, Ind. – The No. 7 Indiana Wesleyan softball team posted a pair of 11-0 shutout wins at Grace College Tuesday afternoon in a league doubleheader.


GAME VITALS 
  • GAME 1: Indiana Wesleyan 11, Grace 0
  • GAME 2: IWU 11, GC 0
  • RECORDS: IWU 40-6; GC 5-37


INSIDE THE BOX – Game 1
  • IWU jumped on top with a run in the top of the third. Julianne Bell bunted safely for a hit and swiped second and third. With one down, Chloe Tragresser doubled home Bell for the 1-0 edge. 
  • The Wildcats broke open the game with a six-run fourth inning. Kamryn Buck singled with one away. After swiping second, she scored on Aubrie Eckert's double. Wyatt tripled to right field with two away and scored on Bell's base knock. Jennah Yost singled and Bell scored on an error.
  • Tragresser drove in Yost and quickly came home on Wehrle's double. Miller's single plated Wehrle for the final run of the big inning.
  • IWU plated four runs in the sixth for the 11-0 win. Yost got things going with a single. Tragresser singled her home. With two on, Zoe Fountain singled in Tragresser and Wehrle, who had reached on a double. Buck doubled home Fountain for the final tally.
  • For the game, the Wildcats pounded out 17 hits. Tragresser led the way with four hits, three RBI and two runs scored. Yost had three hits while Wehrle, Buck and Bell had two hits apiece. Fountain drove in two while Yost, Wehrle and Bell all scored twice.
  • Alyssa Wagner got the win, striking out six over four innings. Addie Benham worked the final two frames, registering a strikeout.


INSIDE THE BOX – Game 2
  • The Wildcats scored early and often in the second game. Yost singled and was able to walk home when Tragresser crushed an offering for a two-run homer.  
  • IWU pushed the margin to 5-0 in the second. Makenna Pace was hit by a pitch with one away and moved to second on a bunt single from Wyatt. Bell tripled home both Wildcats and came home herself on a Yost bunt squeeze play. In the fourth, Bell singled and swiped second base. She scored on Tragresser's base knock to center field. 
  • The Wildcats put away the game in the sixth. Bell recorded a one-out hit and scored on a Yost base hit. Yost stole second and third and came home on an error. Wehrle doubled to center, pushing Tragresser to third. Schrad doubled home both runners. She scored on Laney Shaw's double down the left field line for an 11-0 score.
  • For the game, Yost and Schrad had three hits apiece. Tragresser, Wehrle and Bell accounted for two hits each. Tragresser drove in three runs while Schrad and Bell knocked in two each. Bell scored a game-high three times as Tragresser and Yost crossed home twice apiece. 
  • Danielle Munn worked three innings, striking out one without giving up a hit. Alayna Thomas threw two innings, striking out one while giving up two walks and the lone hit the Lancers would get on the day in the shutout victory.


NEXT TIME OUT
  • The Wildcats take the field again on Friday, Apr. 30 when they play at Mount Vernon in the regular-season finale. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 12 p.m.
