MARION, Ind. – Indiana Wesleyan baseball notched a pair of victories over St. Francis top open up Crossroads League play, winning by scores of 13-2 and 7-6.


INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME 1

• IWU scored runs in each of the first four innings, putting up a 6-0 lead. After USF scored a run in the fifth, the home team answered with three more runs in the fifth. USF had a run in the sixth but IWU answered with four of its own.
• Colby Jenkins led everyone with three RBI while Zach Rabe and Tye Thixton had two RBI apiece.
• Denver Blinn scored a game-high three times while Lucas Goodin and Zach Rabe touched home plate twice apiece.
• Denver Blinn accounted for the lone extra-base hit in the game, coming on a triple.

GOING THE DISTANCE

• Jon Young went the distance in the opener, allowing just two runs on four hits. He was solid, striking out four while walking just one.

MANUFACTURING RUNS

• The Wildcats had just one extra-base hit in the game. The squad registered 12 singles in the game.

SACRIFICING FOR THE TEAM

• IWU had two sacrifice hits in the game (Luke Roman and Zach Rabe) while the squad also had two sacrifice flies (Tanner Killian and Colby Jenkins).

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME 2

• Trailing 2-0 in the fifth, Denver Blinn smashed a three-run homer, giving the home squad the lead. Blake Storr and Tye Thixton scored on the play.
• USF took the 6-3 lead in the seventh off a grand slam, but the Wildcats roared back.
• In the bottom of the seventh, Luke Roman and Tye Thixton each singled. Denver Blinn singled in Luke Roman.
• A bases loaded walk scored Tye Thixton. With two down, MS Stavola singled, plating Denver Blinn and Colby Jenkins for the win.
• Tanner Killian pitched the seventh and picked up the victory. Austin Swift, Parker Johnson and Tanner Killian combined for four strikeouts in the epic come-from-behind win.

ANSWERING THE OPPOSITION

• In the tightly contested second game, IWU struck back nearly immediately after USF scored a run. In the seventh, USF took a 6-3 lead, but the home squad pulled off the victory with a four-run at bat.

EIGHT STRAIGHT

• With the two wins on Friday, IWU moved to 8-7 on the season. It marks the eighth straight victory for the Wildcats.
