BASEBALL SWEEPS SAINT FRANCIS

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Indiana Wesleyan notched a pair of victories Saturday over the University of Saint Francis by scores of 7-5 and 11-4. 


INSIDE THE BOX – GAME 1
  • IWU jumped on top with a pair of runs in the first inning. Tanner Killian's double brought home Denver Blinn, who had reached on a walk. Lucas Goodin's single drove in Killian for the 2-0 edge.
  • The Wildcats trailed 3-2 before a five-run sixth inning put the visitors in front. 
  • An error on the left fielder allowed Luke Roman to score. Moments later, Blinn doubled home Tye Thixton, who had reached on a single. 
  • Colby Jenkins went for extra bases, driving in Blinn. After a pitching change, MJ Stavola doubled in Jenkins for a 7-3 edge.
  • USF scored two in the eighth, but a quick ninth inning from Max Engstrom allowed him to pick up the victory. 
  • Hunter Hoffman started the game and struck out nine. Engstrom worked four innings of relief in the win, picking up four strikeouts.


EXPLOSIVE INNING
  • It marked the second straight game the Wildcats had a large inning. On Friday, a four-run seventh inning gave IWU the come-from-behind 7-6 win.

TWO WITH THREE
  • The Wildcats had a pair of batters that registered three hits apiece. Lucas Goodin garnered three hits as did MJ Stavola. The duo had five singles while Stavola registered a double.

TWICE AS NICE

INSIDE THE BOX – GAME 2
  • A six-run third inning proved to be more than enough in the 11-4 win for game two. The Wildcats scored multiple runs in the third (6), sixth (2) and seventh (3) innings.
  • The squad accounted for just eight hits, but posted 11 runs.
  • Jake Engelkes worked five innings and gave up just three runs on five hits with three strikeouts to pick up the win. Janier Puente saw two innings of relief work. He had two strikeouts and gave up one run on two hits.
  • Colby Jenkins singled in Luke Roman and Tye Thixton in the third inning for a 2-0 edge. An error moments later allowed Denver Blinn to cross home plate. Lucas Goodin's single drove in Jenkins. Blake Storr singled in Goodin and MJ Stavola, who had reached on a fielder's choice.
  • Jenkins singled in Roman and Thixton in the sixth. Roman had reached on a walk and Thixton on an error, making it 8-3.
  • Jenkins doubled in Caleb Brenczweski and Roman in the seventh inning. Jenkins scored a moment later for the 11thrun. 

MONSTER GAME
  • Colby Jenkins did a little bit of everything in the victory. He rattled off three hits, including one double. Jenkins drove in six of the team's runs and scored twice.


MULTI-RUN GAMES
  • Luke Roman, Tye Thixton and Colbye Jenkins each crossed home at least two times. Jenkins and Thixton each scored twice while Roman trotted home three times. 


GAME VITALS
  • GAME 1: Indiana Wesleyan def. Saint Francis 7-5
  • GAME 2: IWU def. USF 11-4
  • RECORDS: IWU 10-7; Saint Francis 8-9


WINNING STREAK
  • Indiana Wesleyan pushed its winning streak to 10. After starting 0-7, the squad has won 10 straight games to go to 10-7. Additionally, the team is undefeated in front of its home fans.


NEXT TIME OUT
  • The Wildcats host Indiana University of South Bend Wednesday in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
