SOFTBALL PUSHES PAST SPRING ARBOR

MARION, Ind. – The No. 11 Indiana Wesleyan softball team posted a pair of 6-2 victories over Spring Arbor Saturday in a doubleheader.


INSIDE THE BOX – Game 1
  • After being held without a run in the first two innings, the Wildcats got on the board with a run in the third. A two-run fifth broke the 1-1 tie and leading by one in the sixth inning, the Wildcats plated three runs to ensure the victory.
  • Mckenzey Ridge worked 5.1 innings and had four strikeouts in the win while Danielle Munn tossed 1.2 frames en route to picking up the save.
  • Miranda Wehrle pounded out three of the team's 10 hits while Jennah Yost had two hits. Maddy Margraf and Chloe Tragresser each drove in two runs while Yost and Wehrle each scored twice.
  • Wehrle reached on an error in the third and eventually came around to score on a miscue.
  • In the fifth, Tragresser lifted a sacrifice fly to center field, plating Yost, who had bunted before swiping second and third. Wehrle homered to make it 3-1.
  • Leading 3-2 in the sixth, Margraf doubled in Makenna Pace and Julianne Bell. Tragresser's groundout plated Yost for what turned out to be the final tally.


INSIDE THE BOX – Game 2
  • Trailing 1-0 in game two, the Wildcats scored two runs in the third, three in the fourth and one in the fifth to put the game away against the Cougars.
  • Pace recorded a game-high three hits. Bell, Rebecca Schrad and Wehrle had two hits apiece. Bell and Pace each crossed home plate twice.
  • Alyssa Wagner threw six innings and struck out eight batters en route to earning the win. She gave up one unearned run and one hit. Alayna Thomas worked the seventh, striking out one.
  • Down 1-0 in the third, Pace knotted the game with a lead-off solo homer. Bell bunted and moved to third on an error before coming home for a 2-1 edge.
  • Bell singled, plating Kamryn Buck. Pace came home moments later. Magraf's base hit scored Bell for a 5-1 lead.
  • Schrad roped a triple to left center field in the fifth and came home on Buck's sacrifice fly to deep center field.  


BACK ON TRACK
  • After losing a pair of games against a nationally-ranked foe, IWU bounced back to pick up a pair of wins over Spring Arbor. The team had not lost three straight games since finishing the shortened 2020 campaign with a three-game slide.
