SOFTBALL FALLS AT NO. 6 MARIAN

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The No. 12 Indiana Wesleyan softball team lost a pair of hard-fought games at No. 6 Marian Wednesday afternoon. Game scores were 6-3 and 5-2.


GAME VITALS 
  • GAME 1: Marian 6, IWU 3
  • GAME 2: Marian 5, Wildcats 2
  • RECORD: 17-3


INSIDE THE BOX – Game 1
  • No. 12 Indiana Wesleyan scored a run in the first and second innings before No. 6 Marian crossed home plate three times over the next two frames. After the Wildcats tied it in the top of the fifth, Marian added two runs in the fifth and another in the sixth for the 6-3 win.
  • In the first, Jennah Yost singled, stole second and scored on a Hannah Miller base hit. Julianne Bell doubled home Rebecca Schrad in the second for a 2-0 edge. 
  • Down 3-0 in the fifth, Miller singled in Bell, who led off the inning with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Yost.
  • Bell, Miller and Yost each had two hits in the game. Miller drove in a pair of runs while Bell drove in one.
  • Danielle Munn started and went 4.1 innings. She had two strikeouts in the contest while Mckenzey Ridge came in and threw the final 1.2 frames. Ridge gave up just two hits and allowed one run while striking out one.


HIGH AVERAGE
  • The Wildcats batted .357 in the game, going 10-for-28 at the plate, including a six-for-15 effort with runners on base (.400). 

INSIDE THE BOX – Game 2
  • IWU jumped on top with a pair of runs in the top of the third, but Marian countered with four runs in the bottom of the stanza and one more in the fourth for the final tally.
  • Yost, Miranda Wehrle, Kamryn Buck and Bell each had a hit in the nightcap.
  • Wehrle and Bell each scored a run.
  • Bell singled to lead off the third and quickly swiped second base. With two down, she scampered to third but was able to take her time coming home with a two-run homer from Wehrle.
  • Alyssa Wagner tossed 108 pitches over five innings. She struck out five and gave up five runs on seven hits. Alayna Thomas worked the sixth inning and did not allow a run.
  • Defensively, Wehrle tallied six putouts while Eckert had five. Yost was solid, contributing three assists.
  • IWU left runners on base in four of the seven innings.

WEHRLE IS WOWING
  • Wehrle continued her stellar season in the second game. She belted a two-run homer in the third for a 2-0 advantage.


NEXT TIME OUT
  • The Wildcats take the field again Saturday when they host Spring Arbor in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
