WEHRLE SHINES IN SOFTBALL SWEEP OF TAYLOR

UPLAND, Ind. – The No. 12 Indiana Wesleyan softball team recorded a pair of tough victories over Taylor, who is receiving votes in the top 25. The Wildcats went on the road after their extended break from action to win 4-1 and 4-2.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME 1
  • IWU struck for a pair of runs in the first inning when Miranda Wehrle belted a two-run shot over the center field wall on a 1-2 count.
  • Leading 2-1 in the seventh inning, Jennah Yost reached on a bunt and swiped second base. She was able to come home when Wehrle went yard for the second time in the contest, this time coming on an 0-2 pitch.
  • Wehrle went two-for-four at the plate, driving in all four runs while crossing home twice. Yost, Addie Benham, Lane Shaw and Chloe Tragresser all had a hit in the game.
  • Danielle Munn was nothing short of outstanding in the circle. She struck out four batters and gave up just four hits while allowing one run. In all, she threw 96 pitches to get the win.  



FIRST TIME
  • Miranda Wehrle registered her first two home runs of the season in the first contest. In all, she has five extra bases hits on the season (two doubles, one triple and a pair of homers). It marked the first time this season a Wildcat has hit two round-trippers in the same game.



INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME 2
  • The Wildcats struck first when Miranda Wehrle launched a solo blast over the left center field wall on a 1-1 offering.
  • Jennah Yost reached on an error and came home when Chloe Tragresser lifted a sacrifice fly to center field, pushing the margin to 2-0.
  • Rebecca Schrad extended the lead to 3-0 when she hit the first pitch she shot over the left field wall. Moments later, Becca Wyatt doubled in Zoe Fountain, who had entered the game as a pinch runner.
  • Taylor plated two runs in the bottom of the seventh and loaded the bases, but Alyssa Wagner registered the complete game victory.
  • Julianne Bell and Schrad led the way with two hits apiece.



IRON WOMAN
  • Alyssa Wagner was an Iron Woman in the complete-game victory. She threw 141 pitches in the game, registering 82 strikes.



NEXT TIME OUT
  • The Wildcats host Oakland City tomorrow starting at 4 p.m. for a doubleheader.
