MARION, Ind. – The Indiana Wesleyan baseball team registered a pair of wins Saturday over Mount Vernon Nazarene by scores of 11-2 and 4-3. IWU has now won 16 straight games.

INSIDE THE BOX – GAME 1

• Hunter Hoffman tossed a gem for six frames, striking out two without giving up an earned run. Max Engstrom worked three innings of relief, posting five strikeouts.
• Denver Blinn led the team with three hits while Blake Storr posted a team-high three RBI.
• Colby Jenkins, Lucas Goodin, MJ Stavola and Storr had two hits apiece. Blinn scored three times while Stavola crossed home twice.
• IWU started the scoring with a three-run first. The team added three in the third to go up 6-0. Leading 6-2 in the bottom of the fourth, the squad pushed it to 8-2. The Wildcats tacked on two runs in the seventh and one in the eighth for the 11-2 win.
• Colby Jenkins started the scoring with a two-run homer in the first. Moments later, Tanner Killian scored on a Lucas Goodin triple.
• Denver Bill started the third with a solo blast. Blake Storr's single plated Lucas Goodin and MJ Stavola.
• Tye Thixton extended the margin to 8-2 in the fourth with a two-run blast. Blake Storr singled in MJ Stavola in the seventh. Luke Roman drove in Blake Storr moments later. Lucas Goodin singled in Denver Blinn to finish the scoring in the eighth.

DIGGING THE LONG BALL

• IWU dug the long ball in the opener. The squad registered three round-trippers on the day. Denver Blinn, Colby Jenkins and Tye Thixton each had homers.

CLOSE

• Denver Blinn was close to reaching the cycle. He singled, doubled and recorded a homer in the first game of the day.

INSIDE THE BOX – GAME 2

• Trailing 3-0 in the fourth, Nick Coy's single to left field scored MJ Stavola, who had reached on a fielder's choice.
• In the fifth, Tanner Killian's sacrifice fly plated Denver Blinn. Lucas Goodin trotted home after blasting a homer over the right field fence, knotting the game.
• Denver Blinn led off the ninth with a double to center field. Colby Jenkins ripped a single down the right field line, which allowed Blinn to race home for the game-winning run.
• Braedon Norman worked three innings of relief, picking up the win. Jake Engelkes started the game and went six frames with four strikeouts. Norman had one in the win.
• Colby Jenkins led the team with three hits. Lucas Goodin and Blake Storr had two hits apiece. Denver Blinn crossed home plate twice.

BENJAMIN PERSPECTIVE

• Proud of the team effort.  Four quality starts on the mound, electric bullpen, and played defense at a high level.
• The guys trust each other and respect each inning. We haven't hit our ceiling yet, but continue to grow.

NEXT TIME OUT

• The Wildcats take the field again on Wednesday, March 17. They will host Lawrence Tech in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
