MARION, Ind. – Indiana Wesleyan recorded a pair of 9-2 victories over Mount Vernon Nazarene Friday afternoon. The wins pushed the winning streak to 14 games.


GAME VITALS

• GAME 1: Indiana Wesleyan 9, Mount Vernon Nazarene 2
• GAME 2: Wildcats 9, Cougars 2
• RECORD: IWU 14-7 MVN 6-5

INSIDE THE BOX – GAME 1

• Trailing 2-0 in the fourth, IWU rattled off nine consecutive runs for the come-from-behind victory once again.
• Tanner Killian registered three singles and drove in a game-high three runs in the win. Chris Lopez had a multi-hit game with two singles. He drove in one and scored twice.
• Luke Roman and Tye Thixton each crossed home a pair of times.
• The Wildcats pulled within one in the fourth when Lopez scored as Thixton reached on an error.
• IWU evened the contest in the fifth when Kilian doubled home Colby Jenkins, who had reached on a lead-off single.
• Roman scored what turned out to be the game-winning run in the sixth off an error by the catcher. Killian's single plated Thixton, making it 4-2.
• Lopez singled in MJ Stavola in the seventh. Stavola walked and swiped a bag before being driven in. An error allowed Blake Storr and Lopez to cross home plate. Denver Blinn's sacrifice fly scored Roman before Killian's shallow single rounded out the scoring as Thixton came home.
• Jon Young nearly went the distance, tossing eight strong innings while picking up six strikeouts en route to earning the victory. Gabe Fleace struck out two batters while throwing a scoreless ninth stanza.

SINGLES ARE VALUABLE

• IWU registered nine hits in the game. Eight of the base knocks were merely singles. The lone extra-base hit came on a Tanner Killian RBI double.

TAKING ONE FOR THE TEAM

• IWU tallied nine hits and six walks in the win. The Wildcats also had three batters reach base after getting hit by a pitch. Blake Storr, Tye Thixton and Tanner Killian all got hit by pitches in the victory.

INSIDE THE BOX – GAME 2

• IWU scored a run in the first and never looked back en route to the 9-2 win. Denver Blinn and Tye Thixton each had a pair of hits. Colby Jenkins, MJ Stavola and Blake Storr registered two RBI's apiece. Thixton scored a game-high two runs in the game.
• Thixton led off the bottom of the first with a single and scored on Blinn's double to left field. Storr singled in Stavola in the second on a base hit.
• With the bases loaded in the fourth, Lucas Goodin scored and moments later Storr's groundout led Chris Lopez cross home plate.
• Stavola's single in the fifth plated Jenkins and Tanner Killian, pushing the margin to 6-0.
• Thixton ripped a double to the gap in the sixth, scoring Luke Roman. Jenkins' double drove in Thixton and Bill for a 9-0 edge.  
• Austin Swift nearly went the distance, throwing 6.1 innings. He recorded two strikeouts and gave up two runs on a pair of hits. Parker Johnson worked the final two-thirds of an inning to close out the game.

IN CONTROL

• From the outset of the nightcap, IWU was in control of the game. The Wildcats jumped on top with a run in the first, a run in the second, two in the fourth, two in the fifth and three in the sixth frame.

SWIPING BASES

• IWU recorded three steals in the second game of the doubleheader. MJ Stavola swiped a pair of bases while Denver Blinn had one steal.

NEXT TIME OUT

• The Wildcats take the field again tomorrow when they will play a doubleheader against Mount Vernon Nazarene starting at 1 p.m.
