WHAT HAPPENED

  • First quarter went back and forth before both teams exchanged scoreless runs. A 9-0 Wildcat run capped off by a Rylie Parker three-ball followed by a 7-0 charge from the Warriors to end the quarter. Wildcats led 20-18.
  • The lead stretched to as much as 11 points three minutes into the second quarter when Kelli Damman knocked down a shot behind the arc. Wildcats headed into the locker room with a 43-36 lead at the break.
  • Warriors weren't going anywhere in the third quarter and put together a run of their own taking the lead 48-47 after an and-one play by Lexey Trobel. Merrell played a key role the rest of the quarter making an assist to give Wildcats the lead back off a Jordan Reid basket, followed by a good three-ball, offensive rebound put back, and two good free throws to propel the Wildcats into the fourth quarter with a 61-56 lead.
  • A 15-3 run to start the fourth quarter sealed the deal for the Wildcats gaining the lead as much as 21 points before finishing on top 84-70.

WHALEY PERSPECTIVE

  • "The depth that we have is one of the blessings in that we can bring a pop off the bench. Jordan Reid is getting better every day, willing to grow, and so humble. In the third quarter when they took the lead, we pulled the team over and said we are going to find out who we are right now. We told you they are a really good team who will be in the national tournament, they are banged up right now but they are such a good team."
