Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

LATE SURGE PUSHES WILDCATS TO VICTORY

MARION, Ind. No. 11 Indiana Wesleyan women's basketball defeated Missouri Baptist 72-62 in day two of the Leah Whittaker classic. This is the second meeting of the two teams with the Wildcats prevailing within 11 points each game. Wildcats move to 5-1 on the young season.

WHAT HAPPENED
  • Both teams matched up evenly in the first quarter exchanging baskets, with Missouri Baptist leading 15-14.
  • Second quarter was another low-scoring battle with Lilli Frasure posting five points and four rebounds, Wildcats trailed 27-25 at the half
  • The story started to turn late in the third quarter. A Madison Davis six-point run started to change the script. Rylie Parker connected on the next possession from deep which put the Wildcats up by two points. With 1:35 remaining in the quarter Jade Nutley checked in and connected on three pointer and two free throws to switch the momentum to the Wildcats leading into the fourth quarter 48-45.
  • Baylie VanDyke and Frasure each both poured in seven points in the fourth quarter, as the Wildcats outscored the Spartans 24-17 in the final 10 minutes of play.
INSIDE THE BOX
  • Frasure posted her first career double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
  • VanDyke added a season-high 12 points followed by Davis with 11.
  • Spartans beat Wildcats on the boards 32-31
  • Wildcats forced 22 turnovers which led to 30 points.

WHALEY PERSPECTIVE
  • "It wasn't pretty but we got the W. Nothing was really crisp but we got shots when we needed them and that's what good teams do. Sometimes you got to find a way, kind of a weird choppy game, really physical in the first half and then in the second half they called everything so it was hard to get in a flow. We figured it out and I'm proud of our girls. It wasn't just one person who stepped up, everyone stepped up and made a big play when we needed it.
NEXT TIME OUT
  • Wildcats continue their homestand on Wednesday, November 17 hosting University of Michigan-Dearborn at 7pm.
