Box Score MARION, Ind. – Indiana Wesleyan women’s basketball nearly upset No. 5 Taylor University Saturday, squandering a 20-point lead. TU scored 47 points in the second half, after scoring just 17 in the first half. A three-pointer with 3:18 left gave Taylor their first lead, since the 8:47 mark in the first quarter. Taylor missed just one shot in the final five minutes, downing IWU 78-71.
Anne Secrest poured in a team-best and career-best of 20 points in the contest. Carly Lange added 18 points and 11 rebounds, good for her second double-double of the season.
INSIDE THE BOX
- Indiana Wesleyan caught fire in the first half shooting 64%. The Wildcats knocked down 16 of their 25 shots. Ten of their shots came by assists in the first half.
- On the defensive side, IWU kept their fire holding TU to just 27 points on 11-of-30 shooting. IWU owned the board grabbing 21 total rebounds, while TU mustered just nine.
- Carly Lange led the way for IWU at the half with 11 points and five rebounds. The senior was 4-of-6 from the floor while dishing out two assists.
- The Wildcats led by 20 with 5:41 remaining in the third, but a TU run brought the contest within 12 heading into the fourth quarter.
- Taylor would hit back to back threes cutting the Wildcat lead to three with 5:38 left in the contest, forcing an IWU timeout. Dayton Groninger would answer with a bucket out of the timeout, after three Wildcat offensive rebounds that kept the possession going. A three-pointer with 3:18 left gave Taylor their first lead since the 8:47 mark in the first quarter.
