MARION, Ind. – Indiana Wesleyan women's tennis claimed two ITA Regional Championships this weekend, with Lena Golz winning the women’s singles main draw bracket and Lizzie Bauss and Maddie Bemisderfer winning the women’s doubles main draw bracket.
Bauss and Bemisderfer defeated Meg Dolde and Morgan Fitzpatrick (Huntington) easily in the finals 6-0, 6-0. The duo lost just eight games in five total matches over the weekend, cruising to an easy double’s championship.
Golz faced a familiar face in the singles championship, battling teammate Bemisderfer. The championship match didn’t disappoint, with Bemisderfer taking set one, 3-6. Golz would battle back in the next two sets winning 7-5, 10-7.
SHIGLEY PERSPECTIVE
- Our entire women's team played phenomenal tennis this weekend. It’s nice to know that any of our top three players can win this regional tournament on any given day. I am so proud of how both of our teams played but more excited about how we conducted ourselves representing Christ both on and off the court.
WHAT’S NEXT
- Next up for the trio will be the 2019 ITA Cup in Rome, Georgia. The cup will take place October 17-20, 2019 on the campus of Berry College.
- On the IWU side of things, women’s tennis heads to Spring Arbor Tuesday looking to claim the 2019 Crossroads League Regular Season Championship for the 27th time in program history.
