Women's Tennis Reaches Ten Wins

MARION, Ind. – No. 9 Indiana Wesleyan University women’s tennis kept up with their strong start to the season with three victories on Saturday. They beat Crossroads League opponents Huntington (6-1) and Mount Vernon Nazarene (7-0) and Lourdes was forced to forfeit because of not enough players. While HU and MVNU are regular Crossroads League opponents Lourdes was a new opponent for the Wildcats as they are a first-year program from Ohio.  The Wildcats used their depth to their advantage throughout their three matchups.  With these victories the Wildcats improve to 10-0 on the season. This victory keeps the Wildcats tied with undefeated Grace for first in the Crossroads League heading into their matchup later this week.

COACH SHIGLEY PERSPECTIVE

  •  “Huntington is as good and deep as I have seen them the last seven years. They are a solid team. We felt good about a 6-1 victory today. They are going to cause problems for teams as the season progresses. We have to do a better job of winning the big points in pressure situations. Maddie did a terrific job of climbing out of an 0-4 deficit in the third set to win six straight games and get the victory. Laura showed great poise in a tight match. Tay (Thewuni Devaraja) played solid and consistent tennis.”
  • “It was really good to get playing time for all twelve girls as we played a split squad match vs. Mount Vernon and Lourdes at the same time. Overall, I was pleased with our effort today. It was nice to pick up three more wins.”

UP NEXT
