Box Score FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Indiana Wesleyan football nearly pulled off the upset Saturday, falling 31-30 on the road to #7 University of Saint Francis. The Wildcats shot out of the gate first, posting two touchdowns in the first quarter and one in the second quarter. The Wildcats would head into the half with a seven-point lead.
Saint Francis would make some adjustments during the half, scoring 17 unanswered points in the third quarter, while IWU mustered just fifteen total yards on ten plays. Saint Francis would take their 10-point lead into the final quarter.
The Wildcats would end their scoring drought with a field goal with seven minutes remaining in the fourth. Indiana Wesleyan would force a three-and-out collecting the ball on their own 36-yard line. The Wildcats would use 11 plays, traveling 64 yards setting up a Zack Blair to Brayden Smith touchdown for the second time in the game.
The Wildcats would go for the win with 39-seconds remaining in the ball game. Blair received the ball from under center, making a quick toss to his right, finding Jesse Deglow. Deglow would look to pass, finding Charlie Hill in the endzone coming up just short in their two-point conversion attempt.
INSIDE THE BOX
- The Blair to Smith combination has worked flawlessly most of the season. The duo has connected for a total of 591 receiving yards and eight touchdowns.
- IWU was happy to see Devodney Alford back in the lineup. Alford collected 113 yards on the ground and 76 in the air for a total of 189 all-purpose yards.
- Josh Davidson led the way with 12 tackles while Lamon Mathison set a career-high with ten tackles.
- Ben VonGunten fired of an average punt of 43.5 yards in the contest, five yards more than his counterpart.
