Women?s Tennis Blanks Belhaven for Trip to NCCAA Championship Match

MOIBLE, Ala. -- Indiana Wesleyan University women’s tennis made quick work of Belhaven (Miss.) with a 5-0 final in the NCCAA National Tournament Semifinals in Mobile, Alabama. IWU advances to the national championship match on Friday for the first time since the team won the title in 2008.

What Went Down

  • The Wildcats won all three doubles matches to lead 3-0. After the doubles matches finished there was a rain delay before the start of singles.
  • Katie Wilson (SR/Middletown, Ind.) and Lucia Solis (FR/Tucuman, Argentina) won 8-3 at No. 1-doubles, Rachel Bottorff (JR/Newburgh, Ind.) and Alex Mella (FR/Libertyville, Ill.) clinched an 8-5 win at No. 2-doubles, and the team of Ellen Hornett (JR/Fishers, Ind.) and Kelsey Vessels (JR/Roanoke, Ind.) gained an 8-2 victory at No. 3-doubles.
  • IWU won the first two completed singles matches to end the team match at 5-0.
  • Mikayla Marazzi (JR/Abbotsford, BC) won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5-singles and Marissa Klein (FR/Evansville, Ind) pulled off a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6-singles.

Next Time Out

  • Indiana Wesleyan plays in the NCCAA National Championship Match at 10 a.m. ET on Friday in Mobile, Alabama. IWU plays the Oklahoma Baptist who defeated Dallas Baptist (Texas) 5-3 in the other semifinal.
