Cedarville Hands Men?s Tennis Loss in NCCAA Midwest Regional

CEDARVILLE, Ohio -- The Indiana Wesleyan University men’s tennis team suffered a nail-biting 5-4 defeat on Thursday at Cedarville (Ohio) in the NCCAA Midwest Regional. Three Wildcats failed to pick up the decisive fifth point in three set losses during singles competition.

What Went Down

  • Cedarville gained the early 2-1 advantage following the completion of doubles matches.
  • Austin Christner (SO/Goshen, Ind.) and Andrew Block (FR/Fishers, Ind.) captured the lone double point for Indiana Wesleyan with an 8-1 win at No. 3.
  • Leonard Mathews (SR/Merrillville, Ind.) and Brandon Dubuque (SR/Marion, Ind.) fell 8-6 at No. 1-doubles while the No. 2 team of Tyler Abbott (FR/Atlanta, Ga.) and Daniel Smith (SR/Crown Point, Ind.) were defeated 8-5.
  • The Wildcats and Yellow Jackets split the six singles matches which was enough for Cedarville to earn the team victory at 5-4.
  • Tyler Abbot won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3-singles play. Austin Christner picked up a 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 5-singles while Andrew Block was victorious 6-3, 6-1 at No. 6-singles.
  • All three Indiana Wesleyan singles losses were three set defeats.
  • Leonard Mathews was defeated 5-7, 7-5, 6-3 at No. 1-singles, Brandon Dubuque fell 7-5, 2-6, 6-2 at No. 2-singles, and Daniel Smith lost 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4-singles.

     

Next Time Out

  • Indiana Wesleyan hosts the Mark Richards Memorial Tournament next weekend at the Sutter Tennis Center. IWU will play one match on Friday and two more on Saturday.
