Women?s Tennis Continues to Roll in Southeast

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. -- No. 15 Indiana Wesleyan University women’s tennis chalked up another victory on Thursday with a 5-0 win at #RV St. Thomas (Fla.) in Miami Gardens, Florida. IWU also holds a 4-1 lead over No. 9 Keiser (Fla.) and will complete that match on Friday after a lights issue suspended the match.

What Went Down

  • Indiana Wesleyan and St. Thomas played to five points as IWU was scheduled to travel and play a second match on Thursday.
  • The Wildcats wrapped up an early 3-0 lead with a sweep in doubles.
  • Lucia Solis (FR/Tucuman, Argentina) and Mikayla Marazzi (JR/Abbotsford, BC) won 9-7 in the No. 1-doubles match, Rachel Bottorff (JR/Newburgh, Ind.) and Alex Mella (FR/Libertyville, Ill.) finished No. 2-doubles with an 8-5 victory, and Kelsey Vessels (JR/Roanoke, Ind.) and Ellen Hornett (JR/Fishers, Ind.) won 8-3 at No. 3-doubles.
  • The Wildcats wrapped up the team victory by winning the first two completed singles matches.
  • Lucia Solis won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2-singles while Alex Mella was victorious 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3-singles.
  • The other four Wildcats who did not finish their singles match had won their first set.

Extra! Extra!

  • Indiana Wesleyan and No. 9 Keiser (Ga.) started a match later in the evening on Thursday. The lights at the facility were turned off during the match and could not be turned back on. Indiana Wesleyan was leading 4-1 and the match will be resumed on Friday afternoon.

     

Next Time Out

  • Indiana Wesleyan finishes their match with Keiser (Fla.) on Friday afternoon. IWU then begins a match with No. 7 Brenau (Ga.) at 4 p.m. in Gainesville, Florida.
