Women?s Basketball Outlasts Huntington in 4 OT Thriller

MARION, Ind. -- In the longest game in Indiana Wesleyan University women’s basketball history the Wildcats defeated No. 22 Huntington (Ind.) 101-92 in front of an enthusiastic Luckey Arena crowd. IWU scored the first 11 points of the fourth OT to finally pull away and bring an end to the 60 minute game.

  • The four overtimes makes this the longest game in Indiana Wesleyan women’s basketball history. The last multiple overtime game came on December 2, 2010 when Indiana Wesleyan lost in double overtime to Daemen (N.Y.).
  • The game witnessed 14 ties and 10 lead changes. Neither team led by more than seven points until Brittany Washington sank two free throws for a 99-90 lead with 33 seconds remaining in the fourth overtime.
  • The Wildcats had a six point lead (62-56) with 90 seconds remaining in regulation and another six point lead (79-73) with less than 40 seconds left in the second OT.
  • Indiana Wesleyan scored the first 11 points of the fourth OT. Huntington managed their only two points on a bucket with 12 seconds on the clock.
  • IWU held a 32-14 advantage in free throw attempts. Brittany Washington (16) had more attempts than the entire Forester team.
  • Miranda Palmer led Huntington with 35 points on 14-of-24 shooting and 5-of-10 from 3-point range.

     

COACH FORAKER SAYS…

  • “I don’t really know how to express what just happened. Those girls just fought and hung in there and when we fell behind they fought back. It was just a great, great effort by a group of girls who were just determined not to quit.  
     


NEXT TIME OUT

  • Indiana Wesleyan faces its biggest challenge of the season on Wednesday as they travel to play No. 2-ranked and defending national champion Marian (Ind.). First tip is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Indianapolis.
