MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University men’s tennis made quick work of Bethel (Ind.) to earn the team’s first victory of the season on Tuesday afternoon in Mishawaka, Indiana.
Following a pair of nail biting 5-4 losses, Indiana Wesleyan defeated Bethel 7-0. Indiana Wesleyan is now 1-2 this season with all three matches coming in Crossroads League play.
The No. 1 doubles team of Leonard Mathews (SR/Merrillville, Ind.) and Gavin White (JR/Lakeland, Fla.) plus the No. 3 team of Brandon Dubuque (SR/Marion, Ind.) and Adam Christner both won by 8-2 scores. The No. 2 team of Joel Montgomery (SO/Powell, Ohio) and Tyler Abbot earned an 8-3 victory for the doubles sweep.
White captured a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 1-singles while Dubuque earned a 6-1, 6-0 point at No. 2-singles. Montgomery easily won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3-singles and Mathews collected a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 4-singles.
Abbott was scheduled to play at No. 5-singles and Christner was set at No. 6-singles. Neither played their match as the indoor court the teams played at only had four courts.
Indiana Wesleyan plays their first non-league match at 12 p.m. on Saturday at IU Southeast in New Albany, Indiana.
