GREENTOWN, Ind. -- Rain forced the Indiana Wesleyan University men’s tennis home match with Taylor (Ind.) indoors at Greenwood, Indiana. Indiana Wesleyan left victorious with a 5-0 win.
The Wildcats pulled out a 3-0 sweep in doubles for the early advantage. Brandon Dubuque (SR/Marion, Ind.) and Leonard Mathews (SR/Merrillville, Ind.) finished off an 8-5 victory at No. 1-doubles while Tyler Abbott (FR/Atlanta, Ga.) and Daniel Smith (SR/Crown Point, Ind.) captured a 9-8 (7-5) victory in No. 2-doubles. Gavin White (JR/Lakeland, Fla.) and Austin Christner (SO/Goshen, Ind.) had little trouble in attaining an 8-0 victory at No. 3-doubles.
Indiana Wesleyan won the first two singles matches to complete the team victory. With only a few courts indoors the match was called once Indiana Wesleyan earned the team victory. Mathews made quick work at No. 2-singles with a 6-0, 6-0 victory while Abbott earned the point at No. 3-singles with a 6-1, 6-1 victory.
The Wildcats improve to 5-2 during the fall schedule and 4-2 in Crossroads League play. IWU has won five consecutive matches. The Trojans drop to 4-5 on the year and 3-4 in league play.
Indiana Wesleyan returns to the courts at 4 p.m. on Tuesday with a home match against Saint Francis (Ind.) at the Sutter Tennis Center.
