SPRING ARBOR, Mich. -- Indiana Wesleyan University men’s tennis won their fourth straight match on Tuesday afternoon with a 6-3 victory at Spring Arbor (Mich.).
Following two tough losses in their first two matches of the season, Indiana Wesleyan has won four consecutive matches to improve to 4-2 on the year and 3-2 in Crossroads League action. Spring Arbor drops to 1-5 during the fall season with all six matches coming in league play.
The Wildcats took care of business in doubles with a sweep while only dropping four games. Gavin White (JR/Lakeland, Fla.) and Brandon Dubuque (SR/Marion, Ind.) teamed at No. 1 and won 8-0. The No. 2-doubles team of Tyler Abbott (FR/Atlanta, Ga.) and Daniel Smith (SR/Crown Point, Ind.) plus the No. 3-doubles team of Leonard Mathews (SR/Merrillville, Ind.) and Austin Christner (SO/Goshen, Ind.) each won by scores of 8-2.
Indiana Wesleyan and Spring Arbor proceeded to split the six singles matches as IWU won the team match 6-3.
Mathews won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3-singles, Abbott was victorious 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4-singles, and Christner took the point 6-0, 6-3 at No. 5-singles. Caleb Cottrell (SO/Hudsonville, Mich.) lost 6-4, 6-3 at No. 6-singles while White and Dubuque both retired in the top two singles matches.
Indiana Wesleyan returns home for their next match which will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday against Taylor (Ind.).
