MARION, Ind. -- Tuesday afternoon saw a quick 9-0 victory for Indiana Wesleyan University women’s tennis over Spring Arbor (Mich.) at the Sutter Tennis Center in Marion, Indiana.
The Wildcats lost just 10 games against the Cougars as they improve to 8-0 this season and 5-0 in the Crossroads League. The Cougars drop to 3-3 overall with all six matches being in league play.
“The girls did a good job of not having a mental letdown after the ITA Tournament,” said Indiana Wesleyan head coach Eddy Shigley.
The No. 1-doubles team of Katie Wilson (SR/Middletown, Ind.) and Lucia Solis (FR/Tucuman, Argentina) plus the No. 2-doubles team of Rachel Bottorff (JR/Newburgh, Ind.) and Alex Mella (FR/Libertyville, Ill.) both won their matches by 8-2 scores. The No. 3 team of Kelsey Vessels (JR/Roanoke, Ind.) and Ellen Hornet won 8-1.
Three of the six singles matches saw Indiana Wesleyan players not losing a game. Bottorff at No. 1-singles, Mikayla Marazzi (JR/Abbotsford, BC) at No. 4-singles, and Marissa Klein (FR/Evansville, Ind) at No. 5-singles all won by scores of 6-0, 6-0. Solis at No. 3-singles and Vessels at No. 6-singles both won with scores of 6-0, 6-1 while Wilson won the point at No. 2-singles by a 6-3, 6-0 scores.
Indiana Wesleyan will next play a scrimmage against Butler (Ind.) on Thursday in Indianapolis, Indiana.
