WINONA LAKE, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University women’s tennis had no issue in collecting a Crossroads League victory on Tuesday night at Grace (Ind.) in Winona Lake, Indiana.
The 9-0 victory improves the Wildcat record to 7-0 on the season and 4-0 in Crossroads League play. The Lancers drop to 1-4 overall and league action.
Indiana Wesleyan was dominant in doubles play as they lost just four games. Lucia Solis (FR/Tucuman, Argentina) and Katie Wilson (SR/Middletown, Ind.) won 8-3 in the top billing, Rachel Bottorff (JR/Newburgh, Ind.) and Alex Mella (FR/Libertyville, Ill.) won 8-0 in No. 2 action, and the team of Kelsey Vessels (JR/Roanoke, Ind.) and Ellen Hornett (JR/Fishers, Ind.) claimed an 8-1 win at No. 3-doubles.
The Wildcats then took all six singles matches which included five of the two set variety. Solis was the only Wildcat to win in three sets as she won at No. 1 by scores of 6-7, 6-1, 10-1. Wilson at No. 2 and Bottorff at No. 3 each won with 6-0, 6-0 scores. Mikayla Marazzi (JR/Abbotsford, BC) added a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 4-singles, Marissa Klein (FR/Evansville, Ind) won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5-singles, and Vessels earned a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 6-singles.
Indiana Wesleyan will next compete as individuals in the upcoming ITA Midwest Regional Tournament.
“The girls are ready and anxious to play at the ITA tournament this weekend,” said IWU head coach Eddy Shigley. “Katie Wilson is the defending champion. There are three teams that will be top-15 teams in the nation in IWU, Northwestern Ohio, and Davenport. Plus many more great players and team competing. Should be a fun tournament.’
The ITA Midwest Regional Tournament will be held September 17-19 in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
