LOUISVILLE, Kentucky -- Indiana Wesleyan University women’s tennis traveled south on Saturday to play a pair of matches in the Louisville, Kentucky area. Indiana Wesleyan won both with a 9-0 win in the first match against IU Southeast in New Albany, Indiana and capped the day with an 8-1 victory against Bellarmine (Ky.) in Louisville, Kentucky.
Indiana Wesleyan made quick work of IU Southeast during a 9 a.m. match.
The Wildcats (6-0) dropped just two games in the three doubles matches for the quick 3-0 advantage. The No. 1 team of Katie Wilson (SR/Middletown, Ind.) and Lucia Solis (FR/Tucuman, Argentina) and the No. 3 team of Kelsey Vessels (JR/Roanoke, Ind.) and Ellen Hornett (JR/Fishers, Ind.) both won by 8-0 scores. The No. 2 team of Rachel Bottorff (JR/Newburgh, Ind.) and Alex Mella (FR/Libertyville, Ill.) were victorious 8-2.
In singles, Solis won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 while Bottorff earned a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 play. Mikayla Marazzi (JR/Abbotsford, BC) took the point at No. 3 with a 6-2, 6-0 win while Marissa Klein (FR/Evansville, Ind) dominated No. 4-singles with a 6-0, 6-0 victory. Courtney Siepman (SR/Plainfield, Ind.) pulled out the 7-6, 6-2 win at No. 5-singles and Gabby D’Aniello won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6.
Indiana Wesleyan finished the day with a 2 p.m. match at NCAA Division II foe Bellarmine.
Indiana Wesleyan once again swept doubles play to pull out to an early 3-0 advantage. Wilson and Solis won 8-1 in the top doubles competition and Bottorff and Mella won 8-3 at No. 2. Vessels and Hornett finished the doubles sweep with an 8-4 win at No. 3.
Solis captured a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 2-singles and Bottorff won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3. Mella won 7-5, 0-6, 10-7 at No. 4, Marazzi took the 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 5, and Klein won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6. Wilson suffered a 3-6, 6-3, 7-10 loss at No. 1-singles.
Indiana Wesleyan returns to Crossroads League action on Tuesday as they play at Grace (Ind.). The match begins at 3:30 p.m. in Winona Lake, Indiana.
