MOBILE, Ala. -- Campbellsville (Ky.) defeated the Indiana Wesleyan University men’s tennis team this morning in the NCCAA National Championship Semifinals in Mobile, Alabama.
The Wildcats lost the match 5-0 to the Tigers who now advance to the national championship match against Palm Beach Atlantic (Fla.) on Friday.
Indiana Wesleyan and Campbellsville played three competitive matches in doubles play. But Campbellsville would win all three matches to take a 3-0 lead in the match. The No. 2 team of Leonard Mathews (JR/Merrillville, Ind.) and Gavin White (SO/Lakeland, Fla.) lost 8-5 while both the No. 1 team of Kyle Johnson (SR/East Moline, Ill.) and Brandon Dubuque (JR/Marion, Ind.) and the No. 3 team of Joel Montgomery (FR/Powell, Ohio) and Adam Wroughton (SR/Schereville, Ind.) lost 8-5.
Campbellsville won the first two singles matches that were finished to claim the 5-0 team victory. The other four singles matches were left unfinished. Johnson lost 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 1 match while Montgomery was defeated 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4-singles.
Following the match the NCCAA announced tournament honors. Kyle Johnson represented the Wildcats as he was named to the NCCAA All-Tournament Team.
Indiana Wesleyan will remain in Mobile until next week as the Wildcats take part in the NAIA National Championship. Indiana Wesleyan will play Northwood (Fla.) in the First Round on Tuesday, May 12.
