MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University women’s tennis is headed back to the NCCAA National Tournament after defeating Spring Arbor (Mich.) 7-0 today in the NCCAA Midwest Regional Tournament Championship in Greentown, Indiana.
The winner of the match earned the Midwest Region spot to the national tournament which will be held in Mobile, Alabama. The tournament is May 5-8.
Indiana Wesleyan won all three doubles match in quick fashion for the 3-0 advantage. Katie Wilson (JR/Middletown, Ind.) and Kim Mella (SR/Libertyville, Ill.) won 8-4 at No. 1, Rachel Bottorff (SO/Newburgh, Ind.) and Kelsey Vessels (SO/Roanoke, Ind.) earned an 8-0 win at No. 2, and the No. 3 team of Diane Jones (SR/Greenwood, Ind.) and Ellen Hornett (SO/Fishers, Ind.) was victorious 8-3.
Wilson won the No. 1-singles match 6-4, 6-4 while Bottorff pulled in the point at No. 2-singles with a 6-0, 6-2 victory. Courtney Siepman (JR/Plainfield, Ind.) won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 3-singles and Vessels claimed a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4-singles. Mella’s match at No. 5 went unfinished while Mikayla Marazzi (SO/Abbotsford, BC) at No. 6 did not begin.
Indiana Wesleyan improves to 17-6 this year and 3-5 during the spring season.
