FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University men’s tennis fell in a tightly contested match against Indiana Tech by a 5-4 margin in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Indiana Tech took the early advantage after hotly contested doubles matches. Kyle Johnson (SR/East Moline, Ill.) and Brandon Dubuque (JR/Marion, Ind.) lost 8-6 in the No. 1-doubles match while Gavin White (SO/Lakeland, Fla.) and Leonard Mathews (JR/Merrillville, Ind.) fell 9-8 (13-11) at No. 2-doubles. IWU gained one point with a win at No. 3-doubles. Adam Wroughton (SR/Schereville, Ind.) and Joel Montgomery (FR/Powell, Ohio) were winning 4-1 before Indiana Tech retired in the match.
The Warriors won the top three matches in singles play while the Wildcats won the bottom three contests.
Johnson lost 6-3, 6-7, 6-0 at No. 1, Mathews fell 5-7, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2, and Dubuque was defeated 7-6, 6-7, 6-2 at No. 3. Montgomery won No. 4-singles 6-0, 7-5, White claimed the point at No. 5-singles with a 6-0, 6-1 victory, and Austin Christner (FR/Goshen, Ind.) won 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 in the sixth position.
Indiana Wesleyan is now 14-6 on the season.
