MARION, Ind. -- No. 14-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University women’s tennis played a NAIA Top-25 opponent for the second consecutive day. No. 22-ranked Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) won the match 6-3 at the Sutter Tennis Center.
Indiana Wesleyan held an early lead on Saturday with wins in two of the three doubles matches. Rachel Bottorff (SO/Newburgh, Ind.) and Kelsey Vessels (SO/Roanoke, Ind.) earned the 8-6 win in No. 2-doubles while Diane Jones (SR/Greenwood, Ind.) and Ellen Hornett (SO/Fishers, Ind.) won 8-3 in No. 3-doubles. The top team of Katie Wilson (JR/Middletown, Ind.) and Kim Mella (SR/Libertyville, Ill.) was defeated 8-6.
Mikayla Marazzi (SO/Abbotsford, BC) collected the lone Wildcat point in the six singles matches as she won 7-5, 6-2 in No. 6-singles.
Wilson lost 4-6, 4-6 at No. 1-singles. The loss was her first this season in singles play as she is now 21-1 on the season. Bottorff fell in three sets 6-1, 3-6, 4-6 and Courtney Siepman (JR/Plainfield, Ind.) lost 2-6, 2-6 at No. 3 play. Vessels was defeated 4-6, 1-6 at No. 4-singles and Mella dropped a 0-6, 1-6 match at No. 5.
Indiana Wesleyan is now 14-3 this season and 0-2 during the spring slate. IWU returns to action at 4 p.m. on Tuesday against St. Mary’s (Ind.) in Notre Dame, Indiana.
