MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University men’s tennis fell 6-3 on Friday night to visiting Cardinal Stritch (Wis.) by a 6-3 margin at the Sutter Tennis Center.
The loss drops No. 23-ranked Indiana Wesleyan to 12-3 this season and 1-1 during the spring season. Cardinal Stritch improves to 10-6 this season.
Indiana Wesleyan fell behind following doubles play as Cardinal Stritch won two of three matches. Gavin White (SO/Lakeland, Fla.) and Leonard Mathews (JR/Merrillville, Ind.) earned the lone IWU doubles win at No. 2 with an 8-0 shutout. Kyle Johnson (SR/East Moline, Ill.) and Brandon Dubuque (JR/Marion, Ind.) lost 8-5 at No. 1 play while Joel Montgomery (FR/Powell, Ohio) and Adam Wroughton (SR/Schereville, Ind.) lost 9-7 at No. 3-doubles.
The Wildcats claimed two singles wins in six matches. White won 7-6, 6-1 at No. 2 while Montgomery earned a 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 4. Johnson lost the No. 1-singles match 6-4, 6-4 and Mathews fell 7-5, 6-3 at No. 3. Dubuque dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision at No. 5 and Austin Christner (FR/Goshen, Ind.) was defeated 6-4, 6-1 at No. 6.
Indiana Wesleyan gets right back at it with a match tomorrow against No. 24 Olivet Nazarene (Ill.). The match begins at 2 p.m. at the Sutter Tennis Center.
